In the summer of 2007, Elizabeth Akano visited Umuaka in Eastern Nigeria. Umuaka is the location of the current school project of Educate The Children. During the visit, Mrs. Akano met with Chiefs, local leaders, school administrators and students. In addition, she was able to see first-hand the deplorable state of the current school building and the hardship confronting the staff and students.

Mrs. Akano also used the opportunity to have discussion with the local leaders and all stake-holders regarding the proposed new school that will replace the existing dilapidated structures. There was broad agreement on the scope of what is needed, an enthusiastic commitment by the local community to provide all necessary support.
